Team plaid on track
The Plaid #19 team originated on the SFC message board in an attempt to bring together Sadler fans during a highly controversial season. It was an attempt to poke fun at Elliott and his “extremely colorful” sense of fashion, or lack thereof. What started as a joke, soon became much more.
2007 for the Plaid started with a slew of paperwork to incorporate this small
group so that the goals they wished to strive for could be achieved. Through the efforts of many who volunteered time and efforts on January 31, 2007 the Plaid #19 became an official non-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Where does it go from here? This small group began the publication of a 322 recipe cookbook which would be sold to raise funds for the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Foundation. Through the efforts of team members, NASCAR personalities and even the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Cookin’ for the Colors went on to be a big success.
Then there was the partnership formed between Winstead Motorsports and the Plaid. AJ Winstead joined the fight against Autism by pledging a portion of his 2007 winnings to the cause. Several trips to victory lane and two Championships later the Plaid donation grew.
Several children have also have been helped along the way this year, and many families have gotten the services and help they needed through our efforts. Keeping these children’s stories out there not only helps them, but calls attention to the fact that there are many medical disorders that get swept under the rug so to speak.
The Virginia Army National Hellhounds have now been adopted and we will be sending them things throughout the year. They all now have elected to join the Plaid.
On a sad note, Plaid #19 member Kyla Miller lost her fight with brain cancer, but we know that she will always be watching over us and all we do.
On December 21, 2007 the Plaid #19 made their 2007 donation to the Sadler’s in the amount of $4,710.00. Sadly, it isn’t enough. The incidents of Autism continue to rise and research continues to be severely under funded.
So what does 2008 hold for the Plaid #19??? We don’t know yet, but we have a lot of ideas and know that it is going to be great!
As always thanks for your support!
The Plaid #19 Team
